Nature gave us our very own built-in survival mechanism – the fight or flight system. This system was only meant to be used in an emergency yet why is it that so many of us seem to be in almost constant survival mode.
What happens when we get stressed
High levels of stress damages our vital organs, affects our immune system and could eventually kill us. When we get stressed our cells stop what they are supposed to be doing – they help us grow, heal and maintain good health – and go on red alert. They shut down and without oxygen, minerals and the fact that they are unable to bet rid of waste and toxins the atmosphere inside the cells for the time the emergency lasts is pretty toxic. Our immune system is put on hold and stops fighting bacteria and viruses for the time we are in stress.
We are not supposed to stay stressed for so long
Imagine if we have a stressful job or we find ourselves unable to move forward and enjoy a healthy lifestyle because our belief system has been damaged by negative past events or traumas – we are going to feel stress. We will go into emergency mode more often and for longer.
We get sick at weak areas of our body
There is much research to suggest that we get illness or disease at a weak spot in our body. Many people can place their hands to a part of their body when under stress and say ‘I feel that stress here’. The cells become toxic at the weak point and cause disease unless we do something positive about it.
You can do something about stress
The next time you feel stressed out take a look at your breathing. Chances are you are breathing to shallow so take in a few nice deep breaths. You’ve probably heard this advice a million times before but deep breathing can help break the cycle of short-term stress.
Look at your posture, sit up straight (not too straight) and uncurl your fingers from the side of desk.
If you don’t already know it learn the EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) tapping sequence and start tapping. EFT really works and is wonderful for dissolving stress.
So, the next time you feel stress think of the damage it is doing to your body and do something positive to relieve it.
